Job Title:  Mechanical Engineer

Working Pattern:  Fulltime

Working location:  Peterborough, Ontario

The Designer will work with the Technical Lead, Chief Design Engineer, and Head of Engineering to ensure the technical efficacy, reliability, quality and safety of the product components and has a responsibility for the technical design solution and configuration management. The role involves performing detailed design activities including the development of 2D and 3D CAD product assemblies, models, and drawings; creating system and component integrated solutions for Naval Handling Systems. An individual in this role will be a self-motivator and have good communication and leadership skills coupled with an applied knowledge of engineering principles, design, manufacturing, and production methods. The role is accountable for the delivery of technically challenging work packages, contributing directly to Defence objectives from within a large cross-functional design team.

Working for the Integrated Programs Team Lead – System Design, the primary responsibilities of the role are:

Key Accountabilities :

  • Provide support in the development of complex mechanical/electrical integrated systems delivering innovative technical design and functional solutions that support program deliverables
  • Develop & review component design and interfaces to meet customer requirements (for both accuracy and manufacturability iaw project financial and schedule requirements) using 2D/3D CAD drawing/models, review/checking, tolerance stack-up, and configuration management effectively utilizing GD&T and ASME Y14.5 standards
  • Complete design assessments, support effective gated review processes for all engineering work packages, and visibly champion a strong, proactive commitment to Continuous Improvement
  • Be a member of the complete product life cycle through design, change notice, plan creation, verification and validation; through the production, testing, installation, commissioning, and field service of equipment and systems as required
  • Support of planning/control, ILS, supply chain, QA, and manufacturing in the use of engineering product data
  • Prepare technical documentation; complete review and verification of technical documents including the generation and organization of Bill of Materials, drawing logs, and purchased part logs

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or comparable STEM Degree
  • Must be, or eligible to be, a Professional Engineer in good standing
  • Demonstrable success delivering technical design tasks to time, cost, and quality targets
  • Proven experience in the execution of complex technical work packages or projects optimized to agreed goals and design requirements
  • Proven ability to apply logical, analytical and innovative thinking on a range of technical problems and to make balanced decisions in complex situations with incomplete information
  • Proficient with Solidworks, and Microsoft Office Suite.  In particular MS Excel and Word
  • In order to be considered for this role you must be a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident
  • In order to be considered for this role you must obtain Canadian Controlled Goods and Reliability Security Clearance
